Green teams contributions deserve recognition

Empty cafeteria trash cans, collect recycling around school, raise a bit of money. These are just a few of the things that Green Team does to contribute for a healthier planet yet they often are not credited for.

While Green Teams efforts can be seen throughout the school, often times they go unrecognized. From their printer cartridge recycling, which not only saves the environment but raises money for the school, to beach clean ups.

While some may argue that Green Team’s actions aren’t necessary, in reality Green Team’s contributions have even won awards in the past. Some of these include an award for second in the county for recycling as well as the Green School of Excellence award.

Our schools Green Team helps to keep trash out of landfills, an important thing as harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in landfill sites. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste.

According to the Green Team Edline page, items that are currently being recycled include paper, water bottles and soda cans, pop tabs from soda cans, rechargeable batteries, cell phones, unusable sharpies and pens and shoes.

One way to support the Green Team involves everyday students thinking about the environment a little bit more and recycling plastic water bottles as well as any other commonly thrown away objects that could potentially help the earth if it were not thrown into a landfill. Another way could be to join the Green Team, as they are always open to new members in their strive to keep the planet a green place.
