Balanced diet improves mental, physical health

Eating healthy on a daily basis could help improve people’s mental and physical state.  Healthline.com states that without good nutrition, the human body was more prone to disease, infection, fatigue, and poor performance.

“Having a balanced diet provides your body the nutrients, fiber, good fats and protein that you need to grow, develop and function to your best ability,” Roberta Azrak, nurse said.

Basing meals off of the food pyramid could help persuade children to eat the right amount of each food section.  According to safefood.eu, to eat a balanced diet, people needed to combine different types of foods from each of the main food groups, all while maintaining a healthy weight.

“A balanced meal should be a medium sized plate split hypothetically into four sections.  The largest section should have your greens, fresh vegetables and fresh fruit.  The other three sections would be your protein, such as low fat meats or vegan proteins such as beans, good fats such as olive oil, and whole grains,” Azrak said.n isks of heart disease.ounts of fat.stay away nty of protien

According to bupa.co, people should eat five portions of fruit and vegetables each day, two to three portions of dairy products, plenty of lean protein, two portions of fish a week and little amounts of fat. Saturated fat could raise bad cholesterol levels and increase risks of heart disease.

“I tell kids that usually do not eat healthy to imagine them grinding up foods that they consume such as cookies and Gatorade, and putting it in a baby bottle. Then I ask if they would feed that to their little brother or sister.  If they have to say no, then I ask, ‘why do you feed those foods to yourself?’” Azrak said.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that four of the top 10 leading causes of death were directly influenced by diet in the United States.  Children with poor diets could have growth and development problems as well as poor academic performance.

Eating well could reduce the risk of diseases, organ problems and some cancers.  According to healthline.com, unhealthy eating habits were hard to break and can persist for the rest of people’s lives.
