This year’s annual communication showcase or Bakademy Awards, featured videos and live performances from every aspect of communications. This years theme was change, to commemorate Bak’s twentieth anniversary.

“The showcase was a great event because it was interesting to see all the departments inside communications. It also gives students a chance to showcase their talents,” Kamryn Bailey, seventh grade communications major, said.

The showcase also allowed the audience to vote on their favorite video or performance in each category.

The categories this year were Best Public Service Announcement (PSA), Best Commercial, Best Electronic News Gathering (ENG) Package, Best Six Shot Story, and Best Three Minute Thriller. There were also multiple live performances from speech and debate, poem readings from creative writing, and compilations of animations and images from graphic design classes.

“My favorite part of the showcase was the duo [interpretation] because the performers did a good job acting and that made it funny,” Jameson Houran, seventh grade communications major, said.

The results came in and the winners were, Best PSA, “See the Signs,” Best Commercial, “Bak MSOA,” Best ENG Package, “Starfest,” Best Three Minute Thriller, “Little Sister,” and Best Six Shot Story, a tie between “Big Things Often Have Little Beginnings” and “She Likes Playing with her Dad.”

“All of these different performances are an excellent way to encompass our department,” Shannon Owens, communications teacher, said. “They are also a nice way to bring everything together into one great show.”
