All students who took P.E. have a new gym teacher, Kara Foulk, to replace the gap left by former teacher Erica Haney after she left in October.

“She is a great teacher. She is nice, and encourages me to try hard in gym,” Jackson Vangiessen, eighth grade strings major, said.

Foulk went to Brigham Young University (BYU) where she majored in physical education and minored in math, with a particular interest in coaching.

“I was recruited from Calgary, Alberta Canada to play golf for BYU on scholarship,” Foulk said.

Foulk has travelled to countries around the world and was always able to find a job in the local school district.

“In Redding, Connecticut I was a full time substitute teacher for a high school and I also coached the girls’ field hockey team,” Foulk said. “In Japan, I was a math tutor for high school students and taught English to Pre-K and elementary students. In Germany, I was on the parent teacher group in different rolls, including president.”

She was inspired to become a teacher because of her teachers and because her father was a professor at the University of Wisconsin.

“I had many great teachers who made school fun and interesting and I knew that I wanted to teach when I got older,” Foulk said.

Foulk was happy with her job at Bak and enjoyed the students. The students were also happy with her.

Kara Ravaschieri, sixth grade band major, said, “The drills she teaches are interactive, and she is very good at taking control of the class.”
