Girls volleyball season ends with a 5-5 record as the 2017 year came to a close.

“We have played each opponent hard, after each match we evaluate our mistakes and improve for the next,” Christine Gilbert, volleyball coach, said.

Bak lost to Duncan Middle on Nov. 15, losing both sets, but pounded Watkins on Nov. 28 winning both sets. On Nov. 30, the stars lost to Jupiter Middle, losing the first set, winning the second, but losing the third. Bak lost both sets to Independance Middle on Dec. 4.

“I think we can beat the good teams if we play our best. Bak is really not that bad,” Amelia Giuliani, seventh grade, left back, said.

The Stars won the next three games, easily winning both sets to Conservatory on Dec. 5 then Duncan on Dec. 8 and Watkins on Dec. 12, before losing both sets to Jupiter on                  Dec.14 .

“We continue to progress throughout the season,” Vivian Miller, eighth grade, outside hitter, said.

Gilbert has coached for 11 years. Although she was not a Bak teacher Gilbert has taught and coached in physical education, basketball, softball, and volleyball. She practiced several important volleyball skills with the team including communicating to each other and serving the ball.

“We always improve on working together, talking, and serving,” Gilbert said.

Bak finished up the season losing both sets to Independance on Dec. 18 then winning both at Conservatory on Dec. 20.

“We haven’t made the same mistakes,” Gilbert said, “We improve on our fundamentals everyday.”
