DIY Martha Stewart Marbled Eggs

Items Needed: hardboiled eggs, mixing bowls, vinegar, food coloring, measuring spoons, olive oil, fork, paper towels.

Step 1) In a mixing bowl, mix 1 teaspoon vinegar and 20 drops of liquid food coloring with one cup warm water. Dye the eggs a light shade and let dry.

Step 2) In a wide and shallow mixing bowl, prepare a darker batch of dye in a different color or darker than the previous dye mixture using the ratio of 15 to 20 drops food coloring to 1 cup warm water, 1 tablespoon vinegar, and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Run a fork through this solution, creating curlicues and swirls.

Step 3) Place a dyed egg in the mixture and roll it around the bowl to pick up oil streaks. Remove the egg.

Step 4) Gently pat the egg with a paper towel. Let dry. You can experiment with color combinations and vary the base tints and the swirls to achieve bright contrasts, subtle shading, or multihued eggs.

Tips: Dye can stain, so plastic gloves and old clothing are highly suggested when handling the dye solution.
