We’ve gone through many micro trends. With the start of a new school year at Bak many trends have stood out. There are some more popular than others.

Over the summer toys called Labubus have had a surge in popularity. Kasing Lung started “The Monsters”. In 2024 hundreds of people have posted about these toys causing a spike in their sales according to The BBC.

“All of the Instagram and Tiktok people [are] unboxing them,” Arabelle Constant, a sixth grade theatre major said.

Many people have had trouble finding real Labubu’s because some companies have created their own fake Labubus to combat the sales of the original. Some fake Labubus include Lafufus, Lababies and Lefufus.

“I got my Labubu off of Amazon but it said it was 100 percent authentic, as well as the reviews,” Constant said.

Buyers have found strategies to spot fake Labubu’s. Labubus have exactly 9 teeth and a hairline on a real Labubu is covered by the fur. There is also clear holographic QR code on the tag that takes you to the official Pop Mart website.

Two Roblox games Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot have increased in popularity. There have been up to 20 million players online in one singular time. These games started gaining popularity over the summer.

Seventh grade communications major Easton Fleisher said, “They are really fun at the moment. They will probably die out soon but I think that Grow a Garden has a good thing going and Steal a Brainrot has good game mechanics”

Both games have weekly updates hosted by developers and guests. Rare items and events are displayed bringing in more players. There is controversy as to which game is better.

“Steal a Brainrot is fun. I do prefer Jandel’s game. I like it better because it’s more peaceful and relaxing,” Fleisher said.

Trends are a way that students connect, familiarizing in something well known. Trends come and go but some are more lasting than others.
