The theme park battle between Disney and Universal has been thriving as both strive to become the leading destination for many visitors around the world. But, choosing between Disney and Universal is much like picking between a toy store and a clothing boutique store. It all depends who is shopping!
Disney is better for families with small children, tailoring their experiences with immersive storytelling and character-driven rides. Universal is the thrill rides king, with cutting-edge technology, not to mention popular intellectual properties like Harry Potter.
Disney is a larger park so it requires more planning on the part of the parents with small children, as they need frequent breaks between activities and attractions. On the other hand, Universal is a more compact park and much easier to navigate.
Always making changes to improve their attractions lineup, in 2026, both DisneyWorld and Universal Orlando are making some major overhauls and new theme parks. Some of Disney’s key highlights include the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Muppets) and updated Big Thunder Mountain.
According to Reuters, a breaking news agency, “Universal Studios’ launched its new theme park called “Epic Universe” which required a $7 billion construction investment.”
The new park features themed lands such as The Wizarding World’s Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo world and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
According to CNBC, “the new park is expected to welcome 10 million visitors during its first year of operation.”
Disney maintains its position in the leaderboard as well. According to Business Insider, “the new park at Universal Studios did not stop Disney from achieving a 10% increase in park revenue during this year.”
Disney chose to enhance its existing parks through new attractions and latest themed resorts based on Epic Universe experiences and improved guest experiences instead of constructing an entire new park.
The two theme parks have different types of strategies to welcome new visitors every year. Universal Studios aims to attract new visitors through its vast majority of new themed areas and entertainment options. The Disney Parks maintains its position as the top choice for visitors because of its established reputation, beloved characters, and strong brand identity.
Both parks continue to develop their best possible attractions. According to analysts, “The upcoming years will likely bring record-breaking tourist numbers to Orlando because Disney and Universal continue their park expansions.”
Universal is trending with new lands and attractions, hoping to grab attention and bring in new patrons and Disney is relying on its long history, famous characters, and strong magic to keep people coming back.
At the end of the day, you can never actually solve this debate of whether Universal or Disney is better because they both have their own unique attractions. Some might say that thrill-seekers like teenagers and adults are looking for faster-paced attractions and a more casual atmosphere like Universal, while lovers of nostalgic rides and Disney character-driven activities choose Mickey Mouse’s big house.
Which to choose? It’s your call.
