As the softball season ended last year, players were frustrated after most of their games got washed out by the rain. Rumors of possible changes to the sports program to prevent the rained-out games is said to be underway. Players are hopeful, but are the rumors true?
“It was very disappointing when a game got rained out because we practiced and we worked hard to play these games and represent Bak,” said seventh grade communications major, Savannah Gritter. “The weather just makes it so that we can’t do that, and it is very disappointing.”
Many people believe the rumors swirling around, but nothing has been confirmed as of right now, which leaves players unsure about the next season.
“Nothing has been finalized yet, so we don’t really know,” said eight grade science teacher and softball coach Matt Sallas. “Everything is just kind of a rumor. It would be nice, but everything is just a rumor.”
There is not a lot of information on whether there will be changes or not, but some changes would help the softball team.
Gritter explained, “Personally, I think during the rainy season at the beginning of the year, we should do more sports like volleyball and maybe basketball that are indoors, and later in the year when it’s sunnier, we could do softball so that we would actually be able to play our games.”
One of the more popular rumors is that they are going to replace the time of when the softball season starts with a different sport. Sallas stated, “It would be nice, and I honestly don’t have a lot of information on that, but it would be nice to move it away from the rainy season and into a dry season.”
With all the information that has been gathered, the “changes” happening are just rumors. If we see updates about any changes, the softball team will benefit, but even if nothing does change, the softball season is still out in the open, rain or shine.
