Bueckers started off as a normal kid, trying all the sports in the book. Throughout time, she began to develop her love for basketball, and in middle school ,she was already playing all the time just like a professional.
Eventually, she progressed into Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where she took the league by storm. She highlighted her strong relationships with head coach, Geno Auriemma, and associate head coach, Chris Dailey, as well as UConn’s support for women’s basketball.
In college, she was awarded numerous awards not only with her team, but as a personal player as well: NCAA Woman of the Year Top 30 Finalist: 2025, Highest career scoring average in UConn history (19.9 ppg), BIG EAST Player of the Year: 2021, 2024, 2025, BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player: 2021, 2023, 2025 (first three-time recipient), Associated Press Player of the Year: 2021 (first freshman to win), and with her award winning team they won the 2025 NCAA National Champion. “God put a dream in my heart and even if I have to walk through a nightmare to get it I’m going to keep believing,” she posted on her Instagram. And on her Tik Tok, she said, “”I’m honored to show all the little kids that are watching this that dreams do come true. If you work hard and you have great faith in your life.”
In August of 2022, she unfortunately tore her ACL, to which she had to sit out the entire 2022-2023 season while recovering. Even though this challenge limited her to play basketball, she persevered through this and was able to continue her college career.
More recently, she won No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings, through that team she was awarded WNBA Rookie of the Year. At only five years old, she made a goal and today at 24 she continues to accomplish it.
