How do you say goodbye to someone who’s been an important figure in your middle school campus life? Most of BAK students wondered as they said farewell to Mrs. Shakendra Moorer, head of the communications department.
After 13 years of energizing pep rallies, organizing fundraisers, and leading aftercare with warmth and dedication, Mrs. Moorer said goodbye to BAK Middle School of the Arts on December 19, 2025. Her departure marked the end of an unforgettable chapter for students and staff.
“She’s such a key part of our family at BAK,” said seventh grade communications major Aneesa Vasuki, as she reflected on Mrs. Moorer’s impact not only in her life but in BAK as a whole. “We’re super sad she’s leaving, but we’re happy she’s going to do something she loves.”
Lekhya Koneru, seventh grade communications major added, “We’ll never forget bombdiggity! That’s what she is—pure energy and heart.”
Mrs. Moorer was a motivator. She drove every student to try their very best, and was behind the scenes for many of the school’s most spirited moments, such as Winter Pep Rally, Halloween Student Costume Contest, and Artsgiving. From cheering students to dancing with her Step Team, running the Aftercare program, and mobilizing the Food Drive during the Thanksgiving holidays, she was the glue that helped everything run smoothly and made students feel seen and supported.
On any given day, in the morning or between classes, she would take out her boom box and lead students to class with music and dancing. She always understood if something was wrong, and never ever failed to make sure every student felt supported.
She also played a vital role in the communications department, helping students find their voices and share their stories. Her ability to connect, uplift, and organize made her a beloved figure across campus.
“I don’t want my students to remember me leaving,” she said. “I want them to remember the impact I made on BAK.”
Her legacy will live on in the spirit she infused into every event and hallway conversation. As Mrs. Moorer embarked on her next adventure, BAK MSOA will carry forward the love, laughter, and leadership she left behind—one pep rally, one fundraiser, and one “bombdiggity” memory at a time.
