As 2025 came to an end, students and staff members left campus looking forward to a much-deserved break. Bring on the holidays! We said, as we closed our backpacks, shut down our computers and planned days full of fun and play ahead.
In this issue of The Portfolio, our focus is not only on what is new this winter, but also on what makes our students stand out. Not only as students but as artists. Featured stories include a deep dive into our dance department, spotlighted members of the Bak staff, a 2025 concert experience review, and pop culture updates we can’t stop talking about.
In addition to the trends and sources of entertainment to our generation, Bak students have always been known for unique, artistic styles, expressed through clothing. We have stories presenting the clothing students admire including the Hollister 2000s throwback.
In our Sports section, you will be introduced to the improvements and challenges that Bak’s sports teams have faced, and a piece highlighting a familiar face in the WNBA.

As students and artists, we are constantly looking for role models. Whether that be a teacher, a friend, or someone we admire, our teacher feature for this issue highlights the works, the teachings, and the imprint communications teacher Shekendra Moorer has had on the lives of many students. As her departure came to a close at the Winter Pep Rally, this piece takes time to appreciate all she has done for us and our school.
The Portfolio online website features a new weekly game, similar to the New York Times Wordle. Students will have access to the word guessing game through the Portfolio’s website, www.portfolionews.org. The words that must be predicted will have a relation to the current published issue. So, read this newest issue in its entirety to get your name on the leaderboard displayed on our website.
Also newly displayed on our website, is a deep dive into a well loved Bak tradition, Artsgiving. Artsgiving is a day where we take the time to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the students at this school by attending performances from all majors. Not only is artsgiving seen as a day to be able to see peers perform, but also a day where we take the time to appreciate the skills, and talents of each and every student at Bak Middle School of the Arts.
From the latest fashion trends to development in technology, this new issue is jam-packed with a variety of different writing. Each and every member of The Portfolio team worked tirelessly to provide an abundance of stories for the entertainment, and sake of our audience.
However you choose to celebrate the closing of the calendar year, we take this time to look back on everything we have accomplished. Whether you are in 6th grade adapting to your new school life, or a returning staff member, everyone in our Bak family can look back at this semester, and remember all we’ve accomplished, and learned. As writers of the Portfolio, our purpose has always been to highlight the best of the Bak community. And you’re a part of that.
