The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is a family friendly museum that offers many activities for all ages during the day. The museum is going to add 132,000–145,000 square feet but it plans to get a lot bigger. Renovating a big land plot is a huge deal, considering that it usually costs a great deal of money. The renovation of this museum will cost about $200 million. In comparison, in their last renovation they built the west wing, which costcosted around $100 million dollars.
This new building will be 231,000 – 233,000 square feet, fitting about 93 adult blue whales, the biggest whale in the world. There will be two buildings, one with three floors, an education center, and hallways for sculptures and paintings. The other building contains a special exhibit floor and a sculpture garden.
There will be a hallway for even more art between the new building and the original one. In addition to the sculpture park, the museum plans to add anthere will be an art park featuring modern, contemporary, and high profile art.
To accommodate the large expansion, there will be an additional 200 parking spaces for the new influx of people to this new attraction. This new renovation is necessary for the museum to catch up to the city around it that is demanding more art and education.
Located on 1450 S. Dixie Highway, Norton Museum of Art is open Monday – Saturday, from 11am to 5pm, and Sundays from 11am to 5pm. For tours, special exhibits, and more information, call (561) 832 – 5196 or visit www.norton.org.
