For many Floridians, the South Florida Fair isn’t just about the rides and games, it’s about the experience. This year, the fair featured themed, “Party with the Pirates,” which was packed with swashbuckling adventures, rides, and entertainment. Building on over a century of tradition, the event occurred from January 16 to February 1, 2026, at the South Florida Fairgrounds, in West Palm Beach. 
Every year, the fair is something many people eagerly anticipate. This 17-day beloved tradition offers over 200 rides, major concerts, unique themed attractions, agricultural exhibits, and of course the fair food, creating a memorable experience for family and friends to enjoy together.
One of the biggest attractions that brings numerous people to the fair are the rides. There are many rides included at the fair for people to go on, whether it is fast-paced full of adrenaline such as some of the roller coasters, or calmer, more gentle rides.
“My favorite thing to do at the fair is to go on rides,” said said sixth-grade communications major Anyah Salmon. “I like going on the bigger and crazier rides because of the stomach-lifting feeling when you suddenly drop.”
The 2026 South Florida Fair featured over 40 Wade Shows carnival rides, ranging from high-thrill attractions to family-friendly options. Key highlights included the 177-foot Thunderbird swing tower, the intense Kraken ride, a sky ride, and multiple coasters like the Mighty Mouse.
“I loved the rides!” added Salmon. “My favorite ride this year was this big rollercoaster that spinned really fast, taking you on its side. I hope they bring it back next year.”
Zoya Sarker, sixth-grade communications major also loved the rides, because as she said, “I love to feel a rush of adrenaline on the scary ones and a little on the less thrilling ones.”
Clearly, the The rides are a big part of what makes the fair, attracting a lot of people each year. But who can forget the food?
The South Florida featured an extensive mix of fried and unique, savory-sweet items. Some of the most common foods were corn dogs, funnel cakes and fried treats like deep-fried Oreos. Other items included d the viral donut burger, brisket mac-n-cheese, pickle pizza, turkey legs, alligator, and unique delights like Cajun candy apples.
The food also plays a big role in why people love coming to the fair. It can allow them to try new foods that they would not normally eat. As well others enjoy light snacks while waiting for rides, that won‘t make them too full but does not keep them hungry.
“My personal favorite food is the fries. I haven‘t tried any crazy combinations of fries, and other foods, but I do enjoy some good fries,” admitted Salmon.
Another popular part of the fair is the game and the booths. People have fun being able to shop or play these games while attempting to win prizes.
The fair even offers entertainment such as, live music, shows, and animal exhibits, where people can view and touch many different animals. These entertainment offerings give people more things to do while they are at the fair and add to their enjoyment.
Overall, the South Florida Fair is described as a fun, exciting, and memorable experience, as it brings people together and has even become a tradition for many.
“The fair makes me feel great. I feel like I have no work or anywhere to go. I can just spend time with friends,” said Salmon. The fair gives an opportunity for people to decompress and live in the moment. With exciting rides and tasty food, it is easy to see why so many people look forward to it every January.
