During a practice, the step team led by Captain Ireanna Linder, 8th grade dance major, did warm ups such as stretching, jumping jacks, and more. “We practice every week, and we do everything over and over and over again,” Linder said. “Sometimes I get tired of it because we have to do the same thing every week. We just practice a lot to make sure that everyone knows what they’re doing.”

“The Dawes Rolls,” also known as the "Final Rolls,” are the lists of individuals who were accepted as eligible for tribal membership in the "Five Civilized Tribes: Cherokees, Creeks, Choctaws, Chickasaws and Seminoles,” said Michelle DeSilva, sixth grade history teacher. “My ancestors are the Byrd Family which you can see on my family's roster.”

Nicole Vasallo, Co-Editor in Chief

Nicole Vasallo (8) is the Co-Editor in Chief of the Portfolio Newspaper. She spends her time off from school going to her travel soccer practices and games, running, doing cross-fit, and exercising. Also, she likes shopping, swimming, and spending time with her family and friends.

Sketching the outline of her butterfly as she prepares to paint, eighth grade dance major, Shyla Dorceus, understands the importance of being a part of the Holocaust Butterfly Project. “It means a lot to me because I know the Holocaust survivors are dying off. We need to make sure that the Holocaust is known,” Dorceus said.

Defending her goal, seventh grade midfielder Genevieve Cox pressures the player on the other team. “I think the season will be good. We do scrimmages in practices, and we will practice things we need to improve on to be prepared for games,” Cox said.

Playing against Jupiter Middle School on Nov. 17, Ryan Connelly, number 11, returns ball defensively. “I believe we could [have] communicated more,” Connelly, middle blocker, said. “We can overcome [nervousness with] positive reinforcements.” They lost against Jupiter 24-26 and 22-25 but won in two sets 25-4 and 15-4 against Watkins Middle School on Dec. 2.
