Every year, during the second month of the first quarter, Bak hosts its annual Club Rush. It provides students with an opportunity to learn about and possibly join clubs such as Student Government, Speech and Debate, Stitch Club, and Lit Mag Club.
Beginning on Sept. 5 at 7:45, when the doors open and ending when the bell rings at 8:15, Club Rush lasted 30 minutes. Each club had its members arrive first at 7:30 to set up their table, then began stacking items related to the club on it. A few of these items include trophies from competitions and events won by the Speech and Debate Club, as well as crocheted pieces made by its members for the Stitch Club.
The clubs distributed flyers with detailed information about the club or the date of the interest meeting for those who may join but need a taste of the club to make their decision. Instead of hosting Club Rush in the cafeteria, as it was a year prior, it was held in front of the main stage due to overcrowding and so that the members of each club could circulate the main stage and send people who had just stepped off their bus or out of their car over to their table. This has led to a greater participation in clubs this year.
The clubs present were the Lit Mag Club, TV, SECME, Robotics, Bak Star Steppers, Student Government, Speech & Debate, Battle of the Books, Builder’s Club, NHJHS, Green Team, and Science Fair. Each had its advisor and a few of its members manning the tables and enticing people to join their clubs. And many did!
